Dr. Hawraa Sameer Sajwani is an internationally trained and highly accomplished Consultant Psychiatrist specializing in General Adult, Addiction and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. With over 17 years of vast experience spanning across the UAE, U.S., and Canada, she is recognized as the first Emirati physician licensed in Addiction Psychiatry.
She has worked across several governmental, regulatory and private entities. She focuses on providing patient-centric care that is personalized to an individual’s needs through a holistic approach to assessment, management, biopsychosocial rehabilitation, and recovery across all stages of mental health. Her expertise lie in the integration of physical and mental health managing complex psychiatric disorders, and co-occurring disorders, including mood, depressive, psychotic, anxiety, sleep, OCD, ADHD, eating, neuropsychiatric and alcohol/substance use disorders.
Dr. Sajwani had her fellowship training under University of Toronto and University of California Los Angeles. She holds the MRCPsych and the Arab Board in Psychiatry, as well as the American Board in Medical Quality. She also earned an MSc in Addiction Studies, the ISAM Certification, a diploma in psychotherapy from UAEU, and a research degree from Harvard Medical University.
She has held several senior leadership roles in national mental health strategy and clinical unit management. She currently serves as the Scientific Committee Chairperson of the Emirates Mental Health Society and the Technical Advisor of the Arab Federation of Psychiatrists.
Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Hawraa is a dedicated educator and researcher. She has served as a training director and a faculty member in several Psychiatry training programs. She was also an IRB member, and her research contributions include published work on addictions, emerging psychoactive substances, adolescent health, cognitive behavioral therapy and migrant mental health.
