DIABETIC EYE DISEASES

Diabetic retinopathy is an eye condition that affects the blood vessels in the retina, causing vision loss or blindness in diabetics.

Diabetic retinopathy may present with no symptoms at first. If you have diabetes, you should have a full comprehensive eye exam at least once a year because early detection can assist you in maintaining your vision.

In the later stages of the disease, you may observe dark, cobweb-like areas or streaks. Usually, the spots clear up on their own – but it is crucial to have an eye exam asap.

Other serious eye conditions can develop as a result of diabetic retinopathy:

  • Diabetic macular edema (DME)
  • Neovascular glaucoma

In later stages, it is necessary to seek treatment right away, especially if vision problems have developed.
