Dr. Niall Martin Jones MD FRCSI(Paed) FRACS(Paed) MClinLead has been a doctor for 28 years, the last 16 years as a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon in the UK, Australia and the UAE. He completed specialist training in Paediatric Surgery after accredited training in the United Kingdom and Australia in April 2007, finishing with 1.5 years at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children in London. He provides the General Surgery of Childhood and Neonatal surgery, and has a keen interest in promoting Minimally Invasive (‘keyhole’) Surgery. He has established a Paediatric Surgery Day Unit for babies and infants over the last 5 years in Abu Dhabi.
At the new PSDU in HSMC Dr Jones offers procedures under local anaesthesia, most commonly Circumcision, Release of Tongue Tie, and Excision of Accessory Digits. Working closely with his nursing team, he has reduced the rate of bleeding after Circumcision to 1% – a ten-fold reduction compared with other services.
Dr Jones enjoys teaching and research and is adjunct Clinical Professor of Surgery at Khalifa University College of Medicine and Health Sciences. His guiding principle is ‘first, do no harm’, and has a particular interest in Patient Safety and Surgical Outcomes.
In the Pediatric Surgery Day Unit (PSDU) at HSMC Dr Jones performs Circumcision, Release of Tongue Tie, Excision of Accessory Digits and Umbilical Polyps, Release of labial adhesions – all under local anesthetic and within minutes.
