• Throat pain that also can radiate to the ears
• Difficulties swallowing
• Fever
• Fatigue

• Acute tonsillitis : Occurs suddenly and lasts between 3 days – 2 weeks
• Chronic tonsillitis : Long term and recurring i.e. more than 7 times a year for children or 3-4 times annually for adults

• Acute tonsillitis treatment: Can include home remedies such as manuka honey and chamomile tea as well as medicinal treatments of antibiotics and pain killers

A surgical procedure to remove the tonsils completely from its bed/location in the area of the soft palate (throat).

It is performed with the use of diathermy (cauterization), radiofrequency or laser where the patient is given general anesthesia.

The procedure usually takes between 10min to 15min on each side.

Recovery time takes from 10 days up to 2 weeks – depending on the healing process.

• For the first 3 – 5 days , avoid hot and spicy food
• Eat soft food like pasta, mashed potatoes, rice etc.
• Avoid fresh juices with a high amount of acidity
• Cold beverages (iced water) or ice cream are very helpful to ease the discomfort/pain
• For children, give them formula to provide all the nutrients and minerals as they will not be able to eat properly in the beginning and will lose some weight
• For both children and adults, consuming manuka honey and chamomile tee for the local treatment of the wounds inside the throat to facilitate the healing process
